Job description

To facilitate teaching and learning excellence within Mechanical Engineering.

Summary of Principal Responsibilities:

  1. To teach on a mixed range of programmes, including BTEC, EMTA/NVQ, City & Guilds and other courses.
  2. To participate as a course team member and to be a course leader.
  3. To contribute towards and participate in the development of teaching and learning excellence.
  4. To contribute to the development of the Engineering facilities.
  5. To undertake teaching and assessment on or off site.
  6. To undertake preparation, assessment and administration associated with teaching duties.
  7. To maintain prescribed records of the teaching and assessment of students for whom responsible.
  8. To participate in meetings of the Department, Directorate, College, Course Teams, and other bodies when required.
  9. To undertake curriculum development, course planning and resource development in conjunction with the Department’s focus.
  10. To undertake interviewing, enrollments and induction of students as appropriate.
  11. To participate in the Student Enrichment Programme as required.
  12. To assist in and engage with the development of links with industry, Institutes of Higher Education, Schools and professional bodies.
  13. To act as a Personal Tutor to one or more groups of students.
  14. To initiate and contribute to the development of the curriculum area.
  15. To promote Equal Opportunity strategies within the classroom.
  16. To ensure that quality standards are developed and maintained in line with the College Quality processes.
  17. To promote and use experiential and independent learning strategies.
  18. To develop own knowledge and understanding of the main issues and developments in further education.
  19. To ensure industrial knowledge is current, regularly updated and developed.
  20. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for which you have responsibility for, or come into contact with.
  21. Any other tasks and responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the position

Requirements of the Role

Essential

  • Suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Engineering qualification ideally at Degree level or HND/HNC.
  • Teaching qualification (or working towards accreditation).
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Well organised and self motivated.
  • Flexible approach.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to employ a range of teaching and learning styles and strategies.
  • Be able to work as part of a team as well as using own initiative.
  • Relevant up to date industry knowledge.

Desirable

  • Have relevant industrial or commercial experience.
  • A1/V1 Assessor Award.
  • Experience in Electrical/Electronic Applications.
  • Driving license.

We are now looking to recruit Teachers across both the Mechanical and Electrical disciplines to facilitate teaching and learning excellence across the specialised disciplines to be based at our Coast Road Campus.

Reporting to the Head of Department in Engineering and Construction, you will be required to teach on a mixed range of programmes, including BTEC, EMTA/NVQ, City and Guilds and other courses whilst participating as a course team member and a course leader.

In these roles, you will be required to teach and assess both on and off site and undertake preparation, assessment and administration associated with teaching duties. You will also be required to undertake curriculum development, course planning and resource development in conjunction with the Department’s focus.
You should possess an engineering qualification, ideally at Degree level or HND/HNC and have up to date industry knowledge whilst possessing good organisational and administrative skills and a flexible approach.

Whilst you should have a teaching qualification, applications will be considered from exceptional candidates with the ability to enrol on and complete the appropriate course.

For both roles, ideally you should possess industrial or commercial experience, A1/V1 Award and ideally have some experience in Electrical/Electronic Applications (Teacher in Electrical Engineering) / experience in hydraulic and pneumatic applications (Teacher in Mechanical Engineering).
